Ernst Werner Siemens was the eldest son of a tenant farmer on 13 December 1816 in Lenthe, near Hanover, was born.

The family of Ernst Werner Siemens went for economic reasons in 1823 in Lübeck. Siemens received private lessons and later attended high school in Luebeck. The school he dropped out prematurely. In 1834 he left Berlin and went to Lübeck. There he became an officer cadet in the artillery of the Prussian army. Siemens was given the opportunity, three years at the Berlin engineer and artillery school arithmetic, chemistry, physics and ballistics study. In 1838 he became lieutenant. The following year, 1839, his mother died and another year to his father. Until 1849 he remained in the military.

During this time he invented instruments, relays and other technological achievements. Siemens has developed a process for laying deep sea cables, which he commissioned in 1857 by the British Government tried. The following year, 1858, he founded a branch in London, which was led by his brother William Siemens.

He also opened a plant in wool weights for the production of cables. In the period 1862 to 1866, Siemens was the Progressive Party member of the Prussian Landtag. In this role he developed the international market for products from Germany. In 1866 he learned the dynamo-electric opinion, which turned out to be both technically and economically as a significant discovery. Ernst Werner Siemens built the first dynamo, and then started 1879 with the production. Thus started the era of electric power technology. 1868, work started on the 11,000-kilometer telegraph line between London, Tehran and Calcutta. With about twelve years of construction work was completed.

From 1867, Siemens, the company continued alone, his partner Halske had alighted. Werner von Siemens died on 6 December 1892 in Berlin.
